Tree Wasp
Tree wasps Dolichovespula sylvestris are another fairly common social wasp. As their name suggets their nests can be often found in trees and bushes, but also like all other wasps underground too. Tree wasps nest are made from mulched wood like other wasps, but instead of the shell shape discs of common and german wasps their nests appear to be made with long ribbons of paper mache.
The key distinguishing feature of these large wasps is the presence of a single dot on the face.
Tree wasps are treated the same as other social wasps, for information on this and further information on life cycles please view the page entitled 'Wasps Nests'
