Super Rats?
It is not uncommon for us to hear that someone has seen 'a rat as big as a cat!', however there has been recent speculation as to the presence of 'Super Rats' here in the UK. It is uncertain as to whether these large rodents are genetic mutations of the common Brown Rat or another species of rodent altogether. With not only reports but photographic evidence coming in from Lincoln and Bradford there is no doubt that something is out there.
Looking into the reports and studying the images available we believe that the Bradford 'Super rat' was most likely an escaped Coypu from a private collection. Coypu Myocastor coypus were once common throughout East Anglia but due to their destructive nature were eradicated by the late 1980's. With a high breeding rate it is possible to suppose that if a small number of Coypu had escaped a colony might once again exist in the UK.
If you have any tales of Super Rats we would love to hear them, but please by email only - unless its there right now!
